WORDS DO CERTAINLY MATTER!
The language we use towards ourselves can have a big impact on our overall well-being. Choosing positive words can help improve our self-esteem and outlook on life. It’s important to practice self-compassion and speak kindly to ourselves.
You have probably heard the saying,
‘Sticks & stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me!’
It is a common saying meant to encourage people to not let hurtful words affect them emotionally. However, words can still have a significant impact on a person’s mental health and well-being. It’s important to be mindful of the language we use and the effect it may have on ourselves & others.

NOW TURN IT AROUND …

So, it may seem simple! But we understand it can take a conscious effort to start implementing more positive words into your psyche. It can be much harder when you don’t have positivity around you. That’s why we are so determined to bring you an abundance of positivity. If you haven’t signed up to the journal & your weekly prints you can do it here now!
But let’s get you started on how you can start using positive words.
One way is consciously replacing negative words with their positive counterparts. For example, instead of saying “I can’t do this,” say “I will do my best.” It’s also helpful to focus on the positive aspects of a situation and use descriptive language to express them. Practising gratitude and positive self-talk can also help shift your mindset towards positivity.
Gratitude can go a long way in changing the way you think and feel.
Here are some other ways to use positive words:
- Use words like “thank you,” “please,” and “you’re welcome” to show gratitude and appreciation.
- Use words like “great,” “amazing,” and “fantastic” to express enthusiasm and positivity.
- Use words like “love,” “adore,” and “cherish” to show affection and appreciation.
- Use words like “inspiring,” “motivating,” and “encouraging” to uplift and support others.
- Use words like “hope,” “believe,” and “dream” to inspire positivity and optimism.
Remember, the way we speak and the words we use can have
a powerful impact on ourselves and those around us.

Why not create a positive word board?
This book Lisa Graff, called Umbrella Summer, is awesome for middle-grade kids. In this book, one of the parents has a ‘word wall’ for unusual words. This is a great idea for your home. You can use a full wall, a corkboard, or even a chalkboard, and encourage everyone to write down a positive word every day (and words that may arise throughout the day).
When they write the word, they have to think about what the word means to them.
This is one way of spreading positivity around the home and uplifting each other until it becomes a natural part of living.
So make an effort to consciously THINK about the words you are using and bring a whole new positive outlook to your life!
